VT Debugger Memory Search Tutorial
Memory search is a core debugger feature. This tutorial covers everything from basic search to advanced pointer tracing.
Basic Search: Exact Value
After attaching, go to Memory Search tab. Select value type (e.g., 4-byte integer), enter the known value, click First Scan.
Narrow Down: Next Scan
After changing the target value, enter the new value and click Next Scan. Repeat 2-3 times to narrow to a unique address.
Fuzzy Search
When the exact value is unknown, use fuzzy search with conditions like 'Changed', 'Unchanged', 'Increased', 'Decreased'. Good for HP%, XP, etc.
Search Mode Selection
# Physical Memory Mode (Recommended)
# Larger scope, finds hidden data
# Requires admin privileges
# EPT Mapping Mode
# Bypasses ring3 protection
# Faster searchPointer Tracing
After finding the target address, use Pointer Scan to find static base pointers due to ASLR. This enables persistent addressing across restarts.
Conclusion
After mastering memory search, learn breakpoint setting and code injection.
